The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a new central contract. Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara, who have been dropped from the Test squad from this deal, have suffered losses.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a new central contract with the players. This new contract has dealt a severe blow to some of the legendary players in the team. Team captain Rohit Sharma, former captain Virat Kohli and fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah have got a plus grade. But there are two players in the team who have been hit.

All-rounder Hardik Pandya and wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha along with Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara who have been out of the team due to poor performances over the past year have suffered losses as their grades have been reduced. The BCCI has divided the players who have been taken into contracts into four groups. The first group is A Plus and its players will get Rs 7 crore from the board. It will be followed by Grade A and players in this group will get Rs 5 crore, Grade B players will get Rs 3 crore and Grade C players will get Rs 1 crore. This new contract of all the players is for the period from 1st October 2021 to September 2022.

Pujara and Rahane were in Grade A before the new contract. Now the BCCI has put them in grade B. The Test series between India and Sri Lanka will begin next Friday. Pujara and Rahane have not been named in the squad for this series. Wicketkeeper Saha also did not find a place in the team. Saha, who was in Grade B, has now been placed in C. The biggest hit has been Hardik Pandya. Hardik was earlier in Grade A. He has now been placed in Grade C. Hardik has been out of the cricket field due to fitness since the T20 World Cup in 2021.

Fast bowlers Umesh Yadav and Bhuvneshwar Kumar have been kept in C grade. Although these players have suffered losses, some of the players have also benefited. Akshar Patel, Mohammed Siraj have been promoted to C grade and B grade. Shreyas Iyer is also in the B grade. Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Shami, R Ashwin retain their A grade.
